Lophura leucomelanos

The Kalij Pheasant, scientifically known as Lophura leucomelanos, is a striking bird species found in the foothills of the Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia. The male Kalij Pheasant is known for its glossy black plumage, iridescent blue neck, and bright red wattles, while the female exhibits more subdued brown and rufous colors. These birds are primarily ground-dwellers, foraging for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates in the forest undergrowth. They are known for their distinctive calls during the breeding season. The Kalij Pheasant is often found in dense, moist, and subtropical forests with thick undergrowth, and they are also known to inhabit forest edges and clearings.
