Karoo Lark

Certhilauda semitorquata

The Karoo Lark (Certhilauda semitorquata) is a small to medium-sized lark found in the arid and semi-arid regions of southern Africa. It has a distinctive appearance with a streaked brown and buff plumage, a prominent white supercilium, and a blackish half-collar on the upper breast. Karoo Larks are known for their melodious and far-carrying song, often delivered from a low perch or in flight. They are ground-dwelling birds, foraging for seeds and insects in open grasslands and scrubby areas. This species is well-adapted to the harsh and dry environments of the Karoo and Kalahari regions, where it can be found in sparse vegetation and sandy terrain.
