Karoo Scrub Robin

Cercotrichas paena

The Karoo Scrub Robin (Cercotrichas paena) is a small, insectivorous bird found in the arid scrublands and semi-desert regions of southern Africa. It has a distinctive white eyebrow stripe and a rufous tail. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, which it uses to communicate with its mate and defend its territory. Karoo Scrub Robins forage on the ground for insects and other invertebrates, often using a hopping motion to uncover prey. They build cup-shaped nests in shrubs or low trees, where they raise their young. Despite the challenges posed by habitat loss and climate change, the Karoo Scrub Robin populations remain relatively stable.
