Kauaʻi ʻōʻō

Moho braccatus

The Kauaʻi ʻōʻō was a small bird native to the island of Kauaʻi in Hawaii. It had a distinctive black plumage with bright yellow-orange wattles and a long decurved bill. This species was known for its melodious and varied songs, which were used in courtship displays and territorial defense. The Kauaʻi ʻōʻō was primarily insectivorous, foraging in the understory of native forests. Unfortunately, this species is now considered extinct, with the last confirmed sighting in 1987. Habitat loss, introduced predators, and disease are believed to have contributed to its decline.
