Kauai Akialoa

Akialoa ellisiana

The Kauai Akialoa, also known as Akialoa ellisiana, was a species of Hawaiian honeycreeper that was endemic to the island of Kauai. It had a long, decurved bill, which it used to feed on nectar from native flowers. Unfortunately, the Kauai Akialoa is now considered extinct, with the last confirmed sighting in 1969. The decline of this species was primarily due to habitat destruction and the introduction of non-native species, such as rats and mosquitoes, which brought diseases to the native bird populations.
