Kauai Akialoa

Akialoa stejnegeri

The Kauai Akialoa, also known as Akialoa stejnegeri, was a species of Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to the island of Kauai. It had a long, decurved bill that was adapted for feeding on nectar from native flowers. Unfortunately, this bird is now considered extinct, with the last confirmed sighting in 1969. The decline of the Kauai Akialoa was primarily due to habitat destruction and the introduction of non-native species. Efforts to conserve and protect the remaining native Hawaiian bird species are crucial to prevent further extinctions.
