Pterodroma neglecta

The Kermadec petrel (Pterodroma neglecta) is a medium-sized seabird belonging to the Procellariidae family. It is predominantly dark brown with a white belly and underwings. This species is known for its long, slender wings and graceful flight pattern. Kermadec petrels are pelagic birds, spending most of their lives at sea, and are commonly found in the southern Pacific Ocean, particularly around the Kermadec Islands. They are skilled foragers, feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Breeding colonies are established on remote, predator-free islands, where they nest in burrows or rock crevices. The Kermadec petrel is known for its haunting calls and is considered a symbol of the pristine marine environment.
