King Rail, Rallus elegans, is a rail of marshes in eastern North America, with breeding also in Middle America. It is a member of the Rallidae and was described by Audubon in 1834. This bird has a long bill that curves slightly downwards. Adults show brown upperparts, rusty-brown on the face and breast, a dark brown cap, a white throat, a pale belly with barred flanks, and white undertail coverts. It breeds in marshes, and birds in the south-eastern United States stay year-round.
