Knobbed Hornbill

Rhyticeros cassidix (Temminck, 1823)

Knobbed Hornbill, Rhyticeros cassidix, is a hornbill of Sulawesi and nearby islands in Indonesia, including Lembeh, the Togians, Muna and Butung. It is a member of the Bucerotidae and breeds in Australasia. Its range is tied to evergreen forest, and it also uses secondary forest, woodland and plantations. The species is marked by a yellow bill and a prominent casque. Males have a red casque and rufous to buff on the face and neck, while females show a black face and neck with a yellow casque.
