Koepcke's Screech Owl

Koepcke's Screech Owl, Megascops koepckeae, is an owl of north-west and central Peru in the family Strigidae. It is found only in Peru, with one form in the north and another farther south. The northern birds use evergreen forest, while the southern birds live in dry woodland and scrub in intermontane valleys. The species is split into two subspecies. It was first described in 1982 and is named for Maria Koepcke, a German ornithologist who worked in Peru.
