Ladder-tailed Nightjar, Hydropsalis climacocerca, is a nightjar of Amazonia in South America, breeding across the Amazon Basin in Brazil, the Guianas, Suriname, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela. It belongs to the family Caprimulgidae and was described by Tschudi in 1844. It lives in moist shrubland, along rivers and beside freshwater lakes. The bird is strongly camouflaged, with broken tones and pale patches, and it has large eyes and a broad gape suited to catching flying insects at night.
