Lafresnaye's Piculet, Picumnus lafresnayi, is a woodpecker of western and central Amazonia in South America, recorded from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It was described by Malherbe in 1862. The bird lives along the edges and in openings of humid mature forest, and it also uses secondary forest. It is mainly found below 1,400 m, though in Ecuador it has been noted as high as 1,800 m. Four subspecies are recognised, with the form from north-central Brazil occupying the middle Amazon east to the Rio Negro.
