Lanceolated Monklet, Micromonacha lanceolata, is a bird of Middle America and South America, ranging from Costa Rica to northern Bolivia. It belongs to the Bucconidae family in the order Piciformes and is the only member of its genus. It is the only bird known as a monklet. In Costa Rica and western Panama, the population has been discussed as possibly forming a separate unit, but no subspecies are recognised. Its range also includes Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia.
