Large Fig Parrot

Psittaculirostris desmarestii (Desmarest, 1826)

Large Fig Parrot is a parrot found in the West Papuan Islands of Indonesia and in southern and western New Guinea, including parts of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It lives in moist lowland forest, mangrove forest and moist montane forest. The adult bird has a red to orange cap, a light blue patch below the eye, a yellow face, a pale turquoise ring with red tones, a grey-black bill and a green body. Males and females look the same, while young birds have less vivid head colouring but otherwise resemble adults.
