Large-footed Finch

Pezopetes capitalis Cabanis, 1861

Large-footed Finch, Pezopetes capitalis, is a passerine of the sparrow family Passerellidae that breeds in Costa Rica and Panama. Cabanis described it in 1861, and it is the only species in its genus. It lives in montane evergreen forest and secondary growth, especially where bamboo is present, and also uses brushy openings, pastures and, in Costa Rica, páramo. Its range runs through parts of Costa Rica and western Panama, with local records down to 1,500 m in Panama and from 2,000 m to above timberline in Costa Rica. It is a year-round resident.
