Large Woodshrike, Tephrodornis virgatus, is a passerine of the Oriental Region, widespread across its breeding range. It occurs in south-eastern Asia, including Sumatra, Java and Borneo. It is placed in the family Vangidae. Its recorded habitats include temperate forest, moist lowland forest in tropical and subtropical areas, mangrove forest in tropical and subtropical zones, and moist montane forest in tropical and subtropical regions. The Malabar woodshrike is sometimes treated as the same species. Ten subspecies are recognised, with forms ranging from the east Himalayas and north Myanmar to south China, Hainan, the Malay Peninsula, Thailand, Vietnam, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.
