Laughing Dove

Streptopelia dusumieri

The Laughing Dove, scientifically known as Streptopelia dusumieri, is a small, slender dove with a body length of approximately 25 centimeters. It is characterized by its soft, gentle cooing call that sounds like human laughter, hence its name. This species is commonly found in open woodlands, agricultural areas, and urban environments across the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. The Laughing Dove has a pinkish-brown plumage with a pale blue-gray patch on its wings. It forages on the ground for seeds and grains, and often forms monogamous pairs during the breeding season. While its population is considered stable, it faces threats from habitat loss and hunting in some regions.
