Spilopelia senegalensis
The Laughing Dove, scientifically known as Spilopelia senegalensis, is a small, slender dove with a body length of about 25 centimeters. It is characterized by its soft, gentle cooing call that sounds like human laughter, hence its name. This species is commonly found in open woodlands, agricultural areas, and urban environments across Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. The Laughing Dove feeds on seeds, grains, and small insects, and often forages on the ground. Its plumage is predominantly pinkish-brown with a blue-grey crown and a distinctive black half-collar on the back of the neck.
