Laughing Falcon

Herpetotheres cachinnans

The Laughing Falcon is a medium-sized bird of prey found in Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive call, which sounds like a human laugh. This bird has a brownish-gray plumage with a white throat and chest, and its wings are marked with black and white bands. It preys on small mammals, reptiles, and birds, often hunting from a perch in open areas. The Laughing Falcon plays an important role in its ecosystem by helping to control populations of its prey species. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss and deforestation pose threats to its populations.
