Laughing Kookaburra

Dacelo novaeguineae (Hermann, 1783)

Laughing Kookaburra, Dacelo novaeguineae, is a kingfisher found in south-west and eastern Australia. It is a resident bird of dry eucalypt forest, woodland, city parks and gardens. Its plumage has a whitish head, a brown stripe through the eye, dark brown upperparts, a pale blue patch on the wing coverts, cream-white underparts, and a tail barred in rufous and black. Male and female birds look alike. Its territorial cry is a well-known laugh, often given by several birds together.
