Parotia lawesii
Lawes's Parotia, also known as Lawes's six-wired bird-of-paradise, is a medium-sized bird of paradise found in the rainforests of Papua New Guinea. The males of this species are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where they perform intricate dances and vocalizations to attract females. They have iridescent plumage, with a black and chestnut body, and a striking fan-like crest on their head. Lawes's Parotia primarily feeds on fruits, insects, and small arthropods. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the conservation status of this species is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
