Laysan Duck

Anas theodori

The Laysan Duck, scientifically known as Anas theodori, is a small dabbling duck native to the Hawaiian Islands. It is a critically endangered species with a small population confined to a few islands. The Laysan Duck is known for its distinctive white eye ring and overall mottled brown plumage. It primarily inhabits freshwater marshes, ponds, and coastal lagoons, foraging for aquatic invertebrates and plant matter. Due to habitat loss, predation, and introduced species, the Laysan Duck faces significant conservation challenges. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its remaining habitat and ensure the survival of this unique species.
