Leaden Antwren

Myrmotherula assimilis Pelzeln, 1868

Leaden Antwren, Myrmotherula assimilis, is a passerine of the antbird family in central and southern Amazonia, where it lives mainly on river islands and along nearby banks and oxbow lake shores. It was described by Pelzeln in 1868. The bird is closely tied to the understorey of tall Cecropia forest, provided there is a varied lower layer rather than Cecropia alone. Its range is centred on the Amazon and its major tributaries, with records from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Two subspecies are recognised, and the nominate form has the wider distribution.
