Least Storm Petrel, Hydrobates microsoma, breeds on islands in the Pacific off Baja California and in the Gulf of California, and ranges through the Gulf of California and coastal eastern Pacific waters from southern California to Ecuador when not breeding. It is a member of Hydrobatidae and the order Procellariiformes. It nests in colonies in rock crevices or small burrows in soft ground, and lays a single white egg marked with a ring of fine black specks at one or both ends. It was first described by Coues in 1864.
