LeConte's Sparrow

Ammospiza leconteii

LeConte's Sparrow is a small, secretive bird found in North America. It has a distinctive orange face with a gray crown and olive-green back. This species prefers to inhabit wet grasslands, marshes, and sedge meadows where it forages for seeds and insects. LeConte's Sparrow is known for its skulking behavior, often staying hidden in dense vegetation. It builds its nest on the ground, concealed within thick grasses. Due to habitat loss and degradation, the conservation status of LeConte's Sparrow is currently listed as 'Vulnerable' by the IUCN.
