Lesser Blue-eared Starling, Lamprotornis chloropterus, is a starling in the family Sturnidae and breeds across Africa from Senegal, Gambia and Guinea east to Eritrea, Ethiopia and Kenya, then south to north Botswana and Zimbabwe. It was described by Swainson in 1838. The species includes two recognised subspecies, with one in the western part of the range and the other extending through southern Kenya to north Botswana and Zimbabwe. Outside the breeding season it gathers in roosts of 500-1200 birds. It feeds on insects and grains, and it is sometimes kept as a pet.
