Fregata ariel
The Lesser Frigatebird (Fregata ariel) is a seabird known for its striking appearance and remarkable aerial agility. With a wingspan of around 2 meters, this species is adept at soaring effortlessly over the open ocean. Its plumage is predominantly black, with a distinctive red throat pouch that males inflate during courtship displays. Lesser Frigatebirds are highly adapted for aerial foraging, often snatching prey from the surface of the water. They are commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, nesting in colonies on remote islands. Despite their widespread distribution, these birds face threats from habitat destruction and human disturbance. Efforts to monitor and protect their breeding sites are crucial for their conservation.
