Lesser Kiskadee

Philohydor lictor (Lichtenstein, MHC, 1823)

Lesser Kiskadee, Philohydor lictor, is a passerine of the Tyrannidae family found in Middle America and South America from Panama to south-eastern Brazil. It is the only species in its genus. The bird was first described in 1823 by Lichtenstein. Its range is split, with one population in Panama and the Caribbean side of Colombia, and another in eastern South America. It lives close to water in marshes, shrubby pasture, grassland, river edges, wooded banks, mangroves and lagoon margins. The breeding season varies by country, and the nest is an open cup placed in shrubs, small trees or on stumps near water.
