Lesser Melampitta, Melampitta lugubris, is a passerine of montane New Guinea, where it breeds in mountain forest. It belongs to the family Melampittidae and was described by Schlegel in 1871. The species is the only member of its genus. It is known from the Jayawijaya Mountains, where the Ketengban people call it golík. It is a terrestrial bird with long legs and a short tail. The sexes are alike apart from the iris, which is crimson red in the male and dark brown in the female.
