Lesser Sooty Owl, Tyto multipunctata, is a bird of the wet tropics in northeastern Queensland, Australia, with its breeding range in se Cape York Pen. and ne QLD. It belongs to the barn owl family and was described by Mathews in 1912. It lives in dark, sheltered parts of rainforest and other dense, wetter forest, especially old growth areas with hollows and gullies. It is marked by dark plumage with heavier spotting than the greater sooty owl, and it is also known for a higher-pitched call.
