Sypheotides indicus
The Lesser Whistling Duck, scientifically known as Sypheotides indicus, is a species of whistling duck found in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and parts of Australia. It is a medium-sized waterfowl with a distinctive reddish-brown plumage, long neck, and a high-pitched whistling call that gives it its name. These ducks are often found in wetlands, marshes, and flooded fields, where they feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their gregarious nature and often form large flocks during the non-breeding season. The Lesser Whistling Duck is not considered to be globally threatened and is categorized as of Least Concern by the IUCN.
