Levaillant's Cisticola, Cisticola tinniens, breeds in eastern and southern Africa and is a resident of wet grassland and marshy places, often close to rivers or dams. It is a small bird with a longish tail and a reddish cap, and the breeding adult shows grey upperparts marked with black, a rufous panel in the folded wing, buffy white underparts and a russet brown tail. Its short bill is blackish-brown with a pinkish base. It was described by Lichtenstein in 1842.
