Levant Sparrowhawk, Tachyspiza brevipes, is a bird of prey of the Palearctic, breeding from south-eastern Europe to western Kazakhstan and spending the non-breeding season in central Africa. It was first described in 1850. A small raptor, it has short broad wings and a fairly long tail, giving it a more falcon-like look than the Eurasian sparrowhawk. The female is larger than the male, though the difference is less pronounced than in that species. It nests in forests and other wooded places, often near water, and migrates, sometimes in large flocks.
