Light-mantled Albatross Phoebetria palpebrata is a member of the order Procellariiformes and the family Diomedeidae, the albatrosses. It breeds on subantarctic islands in the Southern Ocean, from South Georgia to Macquarie Island in the far south-east of Australia, the Antipodes south-east of Stewart Island, and Campbell Island south of South Island, New Zealand. Outside the breeding season it occurs widely across subantarctic oceans from the Subtropical Convergence to Antarctica.
