Little Auk, Alle alle, is an auk of the high Arctic coasts of North America and the Palearctic, breeding from north-east Canada to north-west Russia, with a few birds reaching the Bering Strait. In the non-breeding season it moves south into the Gulf Stream as far as North Carolina, and also reaches the north British Isles and the North Sea. It is the only species placed in the genus Alle. The bird was described by Linnaeus in 1758 and belongs to the auk family, Alcidae, within the order Charadriiformes.
