Little Black Cormorant

Phalacrocorax nigrogularis

The Little Black Cormorant, scientifically known as Phalacrocorax nigrogularis, is a small to medium-sized waterbird found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. This species has a glossy black plumage, a slender hooked bill, and distinctive greenish eyes. Little Black Cormorants are often found in freshwater and saltwater habitats such as lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. They are skilled divers and feed on a variety of fish and aquatic invertebrates. These cormorants are known for their communal roosting and nesting habits, often forming large colonies in trees near water bodies. While their populations are generally stable, they may face threats from habitat loss and human disturbance.
