Little Blue Heron

Egretta caerulea

The Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) is a small heron found in the Americas. In its juvenile stage, it is entirely white, but as it matures, it develops slate-blue plumage with a purplish head and neck. This heron is often seen wading in shallow waters, using its long legs to stalk and capture small fish, amphibians, and crustaceans. It also frequents marshes, swamps, and coastal areas. The Little Blue Heron is known for its gradual color change from white to blue, a unique trait among heron species.
