Little Curlew

Numenius minutus

The Little Curlew (Numenius minutus) is a small, migratory shorebird found in the grasslands and wetlands of eastern Siberia and northern Australia. This species has a long, slender bill, mottled brown plumage, and a distinctive call. Little Curlews migrate long distances, with some individuals traveling up to 10,000 kilometers between their breeding and non-breeding grounds. They forage for insects, crustaceans, and small invertebrates in their grassland and wetland habitats. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressures, the Little Curlew is considered to be at risk, and conservation efforts are underway to protect its breeding and wintering grounds.
