Little Egret

Egretta garzetta

The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is a small, elegant heron with a slender, graceful appearance. It has a distinctive black bill, long black legs, and bright yellow feet. During the breeding season, it develops long, wispy plumes on its back, neck, and head. This species is often found in shallow coastal waters, estuaries, and inland wetlands, where it forages for fish, amphibians, and crustaceans. Little Egrets are known for their agile hunting techniques, which involve patiently stalking prey before striking with lightning speed. They are also highly territorial during the breeding season, performing elaborate courtship displays. Despite being widespread and relatively common, they face threats from habitat loss and disturbance at breeding sites.
