Little Stint

Calidris minuta

The Little Stint is a small migratory wader bird that breeds in the Arctic tundra and migrates to wintering grounds in Africa, southern Asia, and Australasia. This species is known for its rapid, fluttering flight and is often found in coastal mudflats, shallow freshwater marshes, and wetlands. The Little Stint has a distinctive appearance with a short, straight black bill, brownish-grey upperparts, and white underparts. During the breeding season, the plumage becomes more colorful with a rusty-red wash on the head, neck, and breast. This species forages for insects, crustaceans, and small mollusks by probing the mud with its bill.
