Crypturellus transfasciatus
The Little Tinamou (Crypturellus transfasciatus) is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It has a mottled brown and buff plumage, allowing it to blend in seamlessly with the forest floor. This species is known for its distinctive whistling calls that echo through the dense undergrowth. Little Tinamous are primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects, small fruits, and seeds. They prefer dense, humid forests with thick undergrowth, where they can find ample cover and food. Despite being relatively common in its range, the Little Tinamou faces threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas.
