Long-billed Corella

Cacatua tenuirostris (Kuhl, 1820)

Long-billed Corella, Cacatua tenuirostris, is a cockatoo of south-eastern Australia, with its breeding range running from south-eastern South Australia to central Victoria and with introduced or expanding populations elsewhere. It is a corella with a long, pale bill that sets it apart from similar birds. The species was first described by Kuhl in 1820. It lives in grassy woodland, open grassland, farmland, urban parks and red gum woodland. In its range it is also known for digging for roots, seeds, corms and bulbs, using that bill to reach food below the surface.
