Limnodromus scolopaceus
The Long-billed Dowitcher is a medium-sized shorebird with a long, straight bill that it uses to probe deep into mudflats for invertebrates. During the breeding season, it displays a rich chestnut and black plumage, while in winter, it adopts a more subdued grayish-brown coloration. This species is known for its distinctive, rapid sewing-machine-like feeding behavior. Long-billed Dowitchers breed in wet tundra habitats and migrate to coastal mudflats and marshes during the non-breeding season. They are highly gregarious and often form large flocks during migration. Despite facing threats such as habitat loss and degradation, the Long-billed Dowitcher's conservation status is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
