Long-billed Woodcreeper

Dendrocolaptes certhia

The Long-billed Woodcreeper is a medium-sized bird found in Central and South America. It has a distinctive long, slightly decurved bill, which it uses to forage for insects and small invertebrates in the bark of trees. This species is often observed climbing vertically up tree trunks and probing into crevices for prey. The plumage is predominantly brown with streaks and mottling, providing excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. Long-billed Woodcreepers are typically found in humid lowland forests, including primary and secondary growth, as well as forest edges and adjacent clearings. Although not currently assessed by the IUCN, they are generally considered to be of Least Concern due to their wide distribution and presumed large population.
