Otus megalotis
The Long-eared Owl (Otus megalotis) is a medium-sized owl with prominent ear tufts, orange facial disks, and mottled brown and white plumage. These nocturnal birds are known for their excellent hearing and silent flight, which helps them hunt small mammals and birds. Long-eared Owls are typically found in open woodlands, coniferous forests, and marshes across North America, Europe, and Asia. They are often observed roosting in dense foliage during the day and are most active at dusk and dawn. Despite their widespread distribution, Long-eared Owls face threats from habitat loss and human disturbance.
