Asio grammicus
The Long-eared Owl (Asio grammicus) is a medium-sized owl with prominent ear tufts, orange facial disks, and mottled brown and white plumage. It is primarily nocturnal and hunts small mammals, birds, and insects. Long-eared Owls are often found in open woodlands, marshes, and grasslands, where they roost in dense foliage during the day. They are known for their distinctive hooting calls during the breeding season. This species is widespread across North America, Europe, and Asia, but populations are declining due to habitat loss and disturbance. Conservation efforts are focused on preserving suitable nesting and foraging habitats.
