Asio otus
The Long-eared Owl (Asio otus) is a medium-sized owl with prominent ear tufts, orange facial disks, and mottled brown and buff plumage. These nocturnal birds are skilled hunters, preying on small mammals and birds. Long-eared Owls are often found in open woodlands, coniferous forests, and marshes, where they roost in dense foliage during the day. They are known for their distinctive hooting calls during the breeding season. These owls are primarily solitary and are not known for their territorial behavior. Long-eared Owls are not currently considered threatened, but their populations may be affected by habitat loss and disturbance.
