Long-tailed Finch, Poephila acuticauda, is a bird of north-west to north-central Australia, where it occurs in open woodland across the northern part of the continent. It was first described by Gould in 1840 and belongs to the Estrildidae. A striking feature is its long, pointed tail, which gives the species its name. Adults show a black bib, a grey head and a pale ear patch, while the bill varies in colour between the western and eastern forms. It also uses tree hollows and low vegetation for nesting, and pairs stay close together.
