Long-tailed Ground Dove

Uropelia campestris (Spix, 1825)

Long-tailed Ground Dove, Uropelia campestris, is a pigeon and dove of central South America, breeding in north-central, central and west-central Brazil and in northern and eastern Bolivia. It is the only species in its genus. The bird is linked with drier grassland, savanna, woodland margins and scrubby parkland, usually close to watercourses. It occurs from near sea level up to 1,100 m. Its plumage includes a long tail, two purple wing bands and a row of dark wing spots, with the sexes differing in head, underpart and upperpart tones.
