Long-tailed Nightjar

Caprimulgus meesi

The Long-tailed Nightjar (Caprimulgus meesi) is a nocturnal bird found in the lowland forests of the Philippines. With its cryptic plumage and large eyes, it is well-adapted to its crepuscular and nocturnal lifestyle. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of loud, repetitive churring notes. Long-tailed Nightjars feed on flying insects, which they catch in mid-air using their wide gape and bristles around the mouth. They are often observed perched on the forest floor or low branches, camouflaged among leaf litter. Although not currently classified by the IUCN, the Long-tailed Nightjar's habitat is threatened by deforestation and habitat loss.
